The Western Australian State Government is committed to taking a 'Tough on Graffiti' approach to reduce graffiti vandalism in our community. A range of initiatives are being delivered through the Office of Crime Prevention to ensure collaborative action is taken to reduce graffiti in our community. The approach is based on continuous improvement to ensure that graffiti is being comprehensively addressed.
Best practice graffiti reduction models, nationally and internationally, recognise that an effective approach to graffiti reduction needs to incorporate five areas of interventions: prevention; education; removal; community engagement; and sanctions. The State Government has incorporated best practice outcomes in the development of the ‘Tough on Graffiti’ strategy with all five areas acknowledged and addressed.
The prevention of graffiti vandalism remains a challenge that demands a cooperative response by local and state government, small business and the whole of community. No single agency alone is responsible for graffiti reduction, however this Government is committed to leading a whole of government approach to reduction and prevention efforts.
